Dear Colleagues and Music Educators,

The Muscatine Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce its Annual Young Artists Competition auditions which will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 Iowa Ave., in Muscatine. Student musicians in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate. One student will be invited to perform his/her solo work in concert at the Performing Arts Center at Central Middle School in Muscatine, Iowa as a part of the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra’s MasterWorks IV: “Cultures That Connect Us” concert performance on March 9, 2024. There will be scholarship prizes for the winner as well as first and second runners up.

  • Entrants must audition with a composition appropriate for performance with orchestral accompaniment, and which does not exceed 15 minutes in length.
  • Entrants must reside, go to school, or take regular music lessons within 50 miles of Muscatine, Iowa.
  • Entrants must provide their own accompanist for the audition.
  • Entrants must provide three (3) copies of their music being performed.

Teachers, please help your students to confirm that the piece they choose is appropriate for this occasion, and that orchestral accompaniment parts are available.

The deadline for submission of applications for the competition is January 25, 2024

This is my 20th Anniversary season with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra, and I believe that this event has become an important part of our season(s) and history as an organization. As such, I think it’s imperative that our young student musicians still have any and all opportunities to prepare and perform their music in as safe and supportive environments as possible. I look forward to being part of your student’s full orchestra performing experience!

I look forward to our audition day!
