Muscatine, IA – The Muscatine Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is thrilled to announce its upcoming MasterWorks V concert titled “Red, White, and Blue,” a patriotic celebration through music, to be held in April. This exceptional concert will spotlight the extraordinary talent of visiting artist Jeffrey Biegel, who brings not only his virtuosic piano skills but also a dedication to American musical heritage.

Concert Highlights:

  • Date & Location: April 13, 2024, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine, Iowa. The concert promises to be a memorable close to the 2023-24 season, blending the MSO’s reputation for excellence with the iconic American themes.
  • Repertoire: The performance will feature pieces that resonate with American spirit and history, including a special highlight, the “50 State Rhapsody,” an initiative by Jeffrey Biegel to honor the centennial of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

About Jeffrey Biegel: Jeffrey Biegel is renowned for his multifaceted career as a pianist, composer, and educator, including a Grammy-winning recording, more than 25 commissioned works and performances at major venues. His involvement with the “50 State Rhapsody” initiative demonstrates his commitment to celebrating American music across all fifty states, a project that has seen collaboration with orchestras nationwide.

The 50 State Rhapsody Initiative: This innovative project, believed to be the first of its kind and spearheaded by Biegel, aims to commemorate the centennial of “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. By commissioning a new work, “Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue,” to be performed in every state, Biegel fosters a nationwide celebration of American music and unity in a post-pandemic world.  The MSO will be the sole representative for the state of Iowa in the Initiative.
