Muscatine, Iowa – The Muscatine Symphony Orchestra’s 2019-20 MasterWorks Season kicks off the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 12, with a salute to one of the most incredible moments in human history – the lunar landing.
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon. Armstrong famously said as he first stepped on the moon: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” In celebration of this feat, the Muscatine Symphony will perform works inspired by space, including the Iowa premier of Marvin Lamb’s Eagle Has Landed.
“Symphonic performance can help us celebrate great moments in human history,” Maestro Brian Dollinger said. “We make unique connections to the past through symphonic music, whether we are celebrating great victories or some of the darkest of times. Music takes the listener to a deeply personal and emotional place.”
Maestro Dollinger and the Muscatine Symphony are hoping to bring more of their neighbors to performances this season by starting at 3 p.m. The idea is to help a wider possible audience navigate the range of Muscatine’s weekend events.
“I hope earlier concerts will bring in more families. There’s no reason we can’t share our culture, history and arts with the youngest of generations,” Maestro Dollinger said. “That is why I insist on free tickets for anyone under age 18.”
The matinee-time concerts in the 2019-20 Season will be performed at Central Middle School auditorium, 901 Cedar St. Ticket pricing is $15 for adults, and students are admitted for free. (High school and college students should show ID.)
The 2019-20 Season includes exciting collaborations with guest artists and musical programming that sparks the imagination or marks special anniversaries in history.
