Mission statement:
"The mission of the Muscatine Symphony
Orchestra Association is to enrich the cultural
life of the Greater Muscatine Community by
presenting and maintaining symphonic music
of the highest quality and by providing comprehensive
music education opportunities to the Muscatine
area."
Auditions:
The orchestra is comprised of volunteer
musicians from the community, with additional
players from the surrounding communities who
are engaged to supplement sections when needed.
Auditions for placement within each section
will be held the first rehearsal of each semester.
New members will play a short audition for
an independent panel of judges which may include
the section principal. Audition excerpts,
scales, solo/etude, possibly sight reading
(usually 7-10 minutes total).
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals are held every Monday evening
from 6:30-9:00 p.m. in Strahan Hall at Muscatine
Community College. Additional rehearsals are
scheduled before each concert.
Credit:
Currently, a number
of people are eligible to receive course credit
through MCC for orchestra participation. These
are: MCC students, local high school students,
and continuing education.
