Dick Marr
Instrument: Trombone
Dick began playing trombone in
junior and senior high band in Lyons School System,
Clinton, Iowa.
He set aside playing music until he joined the Muscatine’s
Elks Chanters as a singer. Especially “noteworthy”
for his return to trombone playing was the Chanters’
special feature—a swing band. In the annual
concerts this part of the performance provided Dick
with an avenue for picking up the trombone after
being dormant since high school. After almost 30
years with the Muscatine Elk’s Chanters, Dick
retired from that group.
Dick joined the orchestra in 2002 playing second
trombone. Dick presently serves on the Muscatine
Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.
During his last year of college, Dick married Evie.
Following graduation, Dick did a two-year tour of
duty in the United States Army. Then in 1960 he
and Evie returned to Muscatine and resumed his career
with Stanley Consultants. Now retired, he volunteers
on several community boards and is active in church
activities including vocal and bell choirs.
Family is an important part of the Marr’s
lives. Two sons, Michael and Craig, were born in
Muscatine and were graduated from Muscatine High
School in 1976 and 1979 respectively. Michael is
a high school teacher and coach in Westby, Wisconsin.
He and Barb have two children, Erich and Katie.
Craig is a lawyer in Chicago, Illinois. He and Ann
have two children, Eve and Mia.
